Claims

No one wants to have a claim, but when it happens you need answers right away.  Whether you were involved in an auto accident or a tree just fell and damaged your house we are here to help.  Knowing what to do immediately after the claim will help you remain calm in a difficult situation and can help ease concerns when filing a claim.  Here are a just a few things to keep in mind.

Automobiles and Motorcycles

• Get help for anyone who is injured.
• Call the police and stay at the scene until they arrive.
• Do not admit fault.
• Get the names, addresses and phone numbers of everyone involved, including passengers and witnesses.
• Make note of the year, make, and model of all vehicles involved.
• Examine and record any damage to other vehicles or property.  If you have a camera, take pictures of the damage to the autos or property involved.
• Contact your insurance company as soon as possible to report the claim.

Homeowners and Businessowners

• If it is safe to do so, make temporary repairs to prevent further damage.  Be sure to save your receipts for reimbursement.

• Document all of the damage and take pictures. 
• Avoid contractors that want a large payment up front before they will begin repairs.
• Make sure contractors are licensed or bonded.
• Don’t pay too much for temporary repairs.  You could get stuck with the bill.
• Don’t discard anything that has been damaged until the adjuster has examined it. 
• Contact your insurance company as soon as possible to report the claim.
